Hensall Co-op is excited to announce the creation of a new business unit – Hensall Food Inc. (HFI). HFI’s goals will be to develop and further grow new revenue streams through innovation that will allow Hensall Co-op direct access to retail consumers. We are seeking a dynamic individual that will help guide this business to success. This role requires an individual with strong business acumen as they will have oversight of all business aspects and report directly to the COM (Corporate Operations Manager). This role will be hands on given the life cycle of this unit – between launch and growth phase. This position proactively leads, coaches, and develops the managers of the HFI business to work as a team on the development and implementation of the business unit’s tactics, actions, and strategies that will contribute sustainable revenue and profitable growth to Hensall Co-op.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Build and develop a team of strong individuals who will help oversee and run business operations
  • Establish best practices for operations and have oversight of all quality and licensing aspects
  • Develop a pipeline for new product development, developing market strategies to capitalize on trends and market opportunities
  • Stay abreast of current Food Industry market trends and implement changes throughout entity as required
  • Manage and oversee all broker agreements and drive decisions associated with new markets
  • Oversight of procurement process and recipe costing
  • Develop operational strategies and build an associated budget for time horizons of 1, 3 and 5 years
  • Collaborate with COM and marketing team on direct sales strategies
  • Collaborate with COM and marketing team on HFI brand development and representation
  • Drive and implement intellectual property strategy
  • Communicate and interact efficiently with internal services department
  • Oversight and management of division financials
  • Accountable for all audits – accounting, regulatory, customers and GFSI
  • Assist in all financing aspects of the business and have ultimate accountability over cash management and financial results
Collaborating with Hensall Co-op

 

  • Grows the profitable revenue, and net income of the HFI business unit by leading the business unit’s management team to develop and implement a value creating strategy with an HFI customer solutions system backed with CRM sales analytics tools and a proactive cross functional client solutions team, that helps progressive clients and prospects achieve their business goals
  • Collaborates with the COM and the HFI management team in achieving the Corporate Organizational Goals of Hensall Co-op in alignment with its culture (core values and core purpose), value proposition, and corporate strategy
  • Supports the HFI management team in their capital requests and budgeting processes, to build alignment to the strategic playbook so all financial investments drive our strategy and contribute to accomplishing our Corporate Organizational Goals
  • Collaborates with the COM in expansion activities for the HFI business unit (investments, acquisitions, corporate alliances, etc.)
  • Supports the Hensall Co-op Health & Safety Manager to ensure all HFI staff are safety trained and they implement on their learnings
  • Develops and implements in collaboration with HR; skill development and the building of a succession talent pool for all HFI management team and driver positions
  • Report to the COM on all matters of importance relative to the HFI business unit and its effectiveness and efficiency in building the consistent profitable growth of the business unit to contribute to the Corporate Organizational Goals of Hensall Co-op
Future Business Opportunity Development
  • Develop a food innovation pipeline
  • Determine various categories associated with food innovation and develop strategy for how ideas progress to marketable products
  • Establish base guidelines for due diligence and a business plan template for presenting new ideas
  • Present on the innovation pipeline to provide high level oversight and potential opportunities to grow HFI’s portfolio
  • Present recommended business opportunities to the COM with applicable strategies, timelines, manage financial statements, legal structure consideration and financing requirements

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Post-Secondary education in Business or a related program
  • 10+ years of experience in food processing/manufacturing
  • Prior supervisory or managerial experience is an asset
